The essence of the way I work is experiential, connecting mind and body. In our first session, we explore your goals for therapy. I will then develop a treatment plan that could include any of the following ways to work with you.
Together we explore the environmental and internal dynamics that generate your feelings and behavior. We can work with your dreams as an excellent resource for gaining insight.
We identify, explore and find a way to re-frame your thoughts and beliefs so that they no longer get in the way of your growing and moving forward in life.
Guided Meditation/Deep Body Relaxation
I teach mindful breathing, visualization and deep relaxation to relieve anxiety, stress and worry. We can record a session on your smart phone that you can listen to whenever you like. You may be surprised to find how easy it is to disengage from thought as you focus more and more on the sensation of breathing. And as you experience the release of tension, how pleasant it is to drift and dream, especially when it is time for bed.
Hypnosis is a state of mind characterized by inner focus, concentration and mental absorption. It is a wonderful tool for opening a path to insight and possibility. I have used hypnosis successfully to address a variety of emotional and behavioral problems including early trauma, phobia, paranoia and performance anxiety.
Ego State Therapy or Parts Work
The adult self contains earlier self states or parts. Fox example, if there is a child inside you who felt abandoned, mistreated, neglected, or feels guilty for some known or unknown transgression, that child needs to be heard, acknowledged, and taken care of. Trauma can be healed not by changing what happened, but by going back and modifying the remembered experience to have a different outcome.
This is a technique of Ego State Therapy that gives body to a feeling state. You will choose, then step into colored footprints that represent your states of mind and emotion. You will become more fully aware of these states as you experience them in your body. Footprintings is a valuable therapeutic tool for for gaining insight into your relationship with self and others.
